From about May/June to November each year visitors can marvel at the amazing whales that pass along the east and western coasts of Australia. During summer they spend their time feeding in the chilled waters of Antarctica before migrating their way north for breeding. Visitors can usually see the whales on bard one of the many whale watching vessels as the whales make their way north and then south again towards the end of October/November. Experience Oz recommends the following destinations for whales watching in Australia. Gold Coast, Brisbane, Sunshine Coast, Hervey Bay, Sydney.
Adventurous? Australia has so much to offer! Cairns & Port Douglas in North Queensland are sub-tropical paradises in close proximity to rainforests and natural wonders.
Why not have a go at White Water Rafting in the Russel River or Barron River? If you have ever wanted to Skydive,
Cairns offers the best views of the coastline, and reefs.
Try something uniquely Australian, such as a cuddle of a Koala (QLD is the only state in Australia where this is possible). In Queensland visitors can do this at Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary, Lone Pine Koala Sanctuary, Paradise Country Aussie Farm Tours and of course Australia Zoo made famous by the self confessed wildlife warrior Steve Irwin. Aboriginal culture is one of the most ancient in the world, one place that you can experience this is at Tjapukai Aboriginal Cultural Park in Cairns – they offer both day and nighttime experiences. Cheese and Wine Tours in Mudgee near Sydney or travel to the world famous Barossa Valley in Adelaide to sample some of the world best and well known wines! Take a day trip out to Alice Springs in the Northern Territory where you can take a trip to view the world famous Ayers Rock, now commonly known by its traditional name Uluru. Air Whitsunday pioneered the first seaplane services to the Great Barrier Reef and the Whitsunday Islands in April 1973. This awesome company quickly grew to the largest seaplane operator in the Southern Hemisphere and it still retains that position today. If you know about planes, then you will want to know that Air Whitsunday operates a fleet of famous De Havilland Beaver DHC-2 and Cessna 208 Caravan amphibious floatplanes.
Air Whitsunday is well known for their seaplane services that meet up with their privately operated glass bottom boat, moored at an exclusive snorkelling location inside the coral suspended lagoon of Hardy Reef. Along with snorkelling tours; they provide day trips to the five-star resorts of Hayman Island and Peppers Palm Bay, private picnics at Whitehaven Beach and the most comprehensive scenic flights on offer in the region – encompassing all the famous Whitsunday sights. Their fleet is also available for private chartered tours and for transfers between mainland and island destinations, providing an efficient and picturesque means of transfer amongst the Whitsunday Islands and mainland.
All tours and private charters are available from Whitsunday Airport on the mainland which is approx. a 10 minute drive from Airlie Beach central, Peppers Palm Bay on Long Island, Hayman Island Resort and Brampton Island Resort. In addition to these ports, all services are available from private and commercial yachts at a number of popular Whitsunday moorings and anchorages.
This is indeed the most exclusive and all inclusive way to see the majesty and expanse of the Whitsunday Islands and Great Barrier Reef. Air Whitsunday pilots are dedicated to ensuring you have a safe and memorable experience. Miles Above The Rest!

Experience Oz Staff Feedback from Michelle
On Saturday the 27th November, my boyfriend and I went out with Ocean Rafting in the Whitsunday’s on their Southern Trip out to Border Island and Whitehaven Beach. We had the most amazing day!
The weather was a bit patchy in the morning however that did not hinder our experience and it ended up turning out to be great weather once we got out to the islands. The boat was fantastic for rough conditions anyway and it was quite an exhilarating experience being on that boat as it can really ride any waves and swell.

The crew were fantastic and very informative about the region and the islands. We left off from Airlie Beach via Daydream Island where we picked up some more passengers and then continued on to Border Island. Once we were there, we stopped for some snorkelling time. We managed to see a couple of stingrays whilst snorkelling which was pretty cool and lots of different fish. We left there and then stopped at Hill Inlet where we got on-land and had a guided tour up to the lookout. The views were spectacular and looked out all over the islands. It was so beautiful!
We then continued on to Whitehaven Beach where we stopped for the rest of the afternoon to swim, relax and sunbath. Whilst we were there we also had lunch that was provided. Whitehaven I would have to say is one of the most beautiful spots I have ever been too. The sand is soooooo white!

This was such a great trip and I would highly recommend it to anyone visiting the Whitsunday’s.
Until next time, happy travelling! Michelle
